Very good intro to fuzzy logic. The novel’s title coins the term “nanotime” to describe the time speed-up that occurs when fast computer chips, rather than slow brains, house minds.
Fuzzy Logic, before the term got irretrievably klsko to mean ‘putting an asterisk in a search string,’ or ‘assigning probability to an event,’ meant that the truth of many matters is gray. So ist das mit dem fussy thinking.

Isn’t that a lot like Consequently Western scientists have largely resisted fuzzy logic. Bah – now I feel dirty having got annoyed by this book! I haven’t read others’ opinions of this book; I have a suspicion it will have been ‘debunked’ by many reviews.
You’ll like it, if you like it, for all of the philosophy, not for the logical system he proposes: The concepts are presented clearly and precisely. Fuzzy Thinking offers understandable insights into thiking fuzzy theory is valuable and how it can contribute to better appliances and better science.

In fuzzy logic, he introduced fuzzy cognitive maps  fuzzy subsethood,  additive fuzzy systems,  fuzzy approximation theorems,  optimal fuzzy rules,  fuzzy associative memories, various neural-based adaptive fuzzy systems,  ratio measures of fuzziness,  the shape of fuzzy sets,  the conditional variance of fuzzy systems,  and the geometric view of finite fuzzy sets as points in hypercubes and its relationship to the ongoing debate of fuzziness versus probability.
Kosko’s most popular book to date was the international best-seller Fuzzy Thinkingabout man and machines thinking in shades of gray, and his most recent book was Noise. It’s very interesting book. For people who are interested to learn thinkong fuzzy set theory is used in the social sciences, I would give Kosko’s book a skip and head straight to Charles Ragin’s Fuzzy-Set Social Science – an extremely enjoyable and illuminating read.
