Like the author, I was relieved when he was transferred to a medium security prison after three weeks, and I priosn that his memoir picks up at that point in the next volume which is not available as a download from my library. This is one of Archer’s best books.
The fall from greatness alone creates tension: Unlike anything he’s ever written this is a real eye opener. I don’t know if he assumes that the reader knows the details of his priwon, but he gives none in this book beyond protesting his innocence, excoriating the associates who “set him up”and repeating every conversation he has or letter he receives that confirms his belief that the Judge at his trial treated him unfairly. Yet he began writing down his days in the prison.

He emphasizes how ineffective prison bureaucracy is, especially how the hierarchy works or rather does not work, for example a number of personnel each claiming to be governor. Other inmates he talked with include an experienced Listener for the Samaritanswho had been sexually abused through much of his childhood, existing as a sex-slaveand only knew crime.
Of course, some of Archer’s observations and the inmates’ tales can’t be taken as gospel since Archer is a convicted perjurer and his secondhand stories come from the mouths of murderers and other felons. Views Read Edit View history.

Its all been said on here. We would like to see the views of many of the other 72, prisoners and those of their families and prison staff brought to light.

Archer prison diaries cause uproar
Is that all there is? It should be expanded to provide more balanced coverage that includes real-world context.
The book itself is a mush of hate, political discussions, and the author’s next campaign goals all combined. Archer’s writing and had to wait years to read this since my library didn’t have it on audio. Refresh and try again.

It is critical of the penal system, arhcer that should be no reason for penalising him. I found it dubious. A prolific author and politician, Jeffrey Archer was sentenced to four years in jail.
