As a guitarist, I feel that this piece is more difficult to realize as a waltz and easier as a mazurka. When I read that “choro” means lament or crying, I guess I started making some parts a little staccato to sort of mimic crying As you probably know, choro derived from the fusion of 19th century European dances like the waltz and the polka with the rhythms brought from Africa to Brazil by enslaved people.
But the music is not necessarily sad. If you want to know more about mainly traditional choro, you might take a look at the site of Acari Records, a label which specializes in this genre. It depends a lot on how you are fingering it and I have done so to enhance those opportunities so maybe you need to revisit the fingering.

I normally play most of that around the middle of the neck, masurka it sounded nice when you were playing it near the first position so I might change some of those. Copies for the private and personal use of the copier.

Also, I’m having trouble making the harmonic on the 5th fret sound, is there a certain way to do it? I can do it fine on the 7th and 12th frets. L defines the exceptions to French copyright law, which are relatively restricted.

I have been having tremendous fun glissing my way through that up and down the 1st string. I think the parts where I was noticeably being staccato were in measures 3, 12, and 14 where the notes repeat. The sound is very bad, though. Bear in mind that the Choros and the Suite Populaire Bresilienne written by Villa-Lobos are stylized pieces based on popular choro.
